Outdoor Portraits

This was a fun challenge to shoot in between downpours. It was actually just starting to rain as I was taking the first photo. Andre was such a great sport, he was not very comfortable being in front of a camera so we talked about doing activities that made him feel at ease, such as running track. Andre earned a full ride scholarship to Concordia University, we took his senior photos at his future home.

Post production

10 months out of the year, Oregon has “white out” overcast skies. I wanted to learn techniques that would let me work with suboptimal weather rather than constantly rescheduling for sunny days. This shoot took place in beautiful St. John’s Cathedral Park and the weather gave me the perfectly imperfect scenario. I used Photoshop software as well as some stock imagery in post-production to include the subtleties that complete a picture and garner an emotional response.

Artistic Direction

This was valuable project for me to exercise my skills in lighting and composition. My subject, John, was an absolute delight to work with and we collaborated on a James Dean inspired look for this shoot. I wanted this session to explore smoke and light play but my favorite shot from the entire series ended up being the one without any smoke.

I’m still finding past work as I continue to search old hard drives. Check back later for more archives!
